JOSÉ ANTONIO MONTAÑO / Conductor

José Antonio Montaño is a formidable and well-trained musician, a confident and efficient conductor who has absorbed the wisdom of the late maestro Jesús López Cobos and who has continued his training with other excellent conductors. He has a full CV and has conducted renowned orchestras, and has performed in many national and international venues. A few years ago, he founded the orchestra of period instruments La Madrileña and recently helped give birth to a beautiful project directly linked to the religious work of José de Nebra. His group recorded the Office and Mass of the Dead, a masterpiece that debuted in 1758 during the funeral of the Queen of Spain, Bárbara de Braganza. "…" We salute Montaño’s project, which took shape after an enormous work of musicological study and revision and, finally, which offers us this interpretation of the Requiem admirably clean, respectful and adapted. "
Scherzo Magazine. Recording Review. By Mariano Acero Ruilopez

“José Antonio Montaño, conductor and founder of“ La Madrileña ”, has been on the podium of the best orchestras, theaters and festivals in our country and in Europe for twenty years. His repertoire covers practically the entire history of music: from early music to contemporary music. His work on early music was mainly carried by the direction of the orchestra of period instruments "La Madrileña". His contributions to the development of contemporary music include conducting world premieres, such as the one to be performed in the near future with the Milan Symphony Orchestra: a composition by José María Sánchez Verdú.
Opera is another of his great passions, and he aims to direct scenic projects from the Spanish Baroque period at the Teatro de la Zarzuela. Ten years of work at the Teatro Real in Madrid support him as a conductor in the pit. He has also directed numerous productions of the National Ballet of Spain.
Montaño is a versatile musician, with enormous versatility, who also finds time to compose. He has just made his debut with La Madrileña at the National Music Auditorium, and soon his new album, with an unpublished Spanish repertoire, will be available to be listened to ”.

F. J. HAYDN’S OPERA, LA VERA COSTANZA at GRAND THÉÂTRE MASSENET
in SAINT-ETIENNE

“The recitatives accompanied on the harpsichord, the use of baroque timpani in the orchestra gives all its brilliance to this virtuoso Mozartian writing. The orchestra, under the flexible and ample direction of the young conductor José Antonio Montaño, masterfully performed this work, which was widely applauded yesterday at the premiere at the Grand Théâtre Massenet. ”

“Finally we must praise the direction of young Spanish chef José Antonio Montano. In a non-baroque design, it particularly emphasizes the refinements of the orchestration and knows how to set the rhythm and the lighting that suit. The Orchester Symphonique de Saint-Étienne, whose performance in a repertoire that is not the one it usually performs, must be noted, follows it to perfection. "

"Struck with the seal of youth, the cast, from which the mezzo Federica Carnevale (Rosina), the tenor Cosimo Panozzo (Ernesto) and the tenor Enea Scala (Errico) stand out, offers a beautiful homogeneity, especially in the together, it is true coordinated, stimulated, tamed by the very young direction of MaestroJosé Montaño. Better still, this conductor as committed as he is precise, as motivated as he is motivating, knows how to mobilize and galvanize all the sections of the Saint-Étienne Symphony Orchestra, in great shape. »
