Fernande Decruck

American conductor Matthew Aubin is today recognized as the leading specialist of the works of French composer Fernande Breilh-Decruck (1896–1954). He has received several research grants to deepen the study of her life and catalogue, which remain largely unknown.

A committed advocate for the recognition of women composers throughout music history, Matthew Aubin is dedicated to reviving the long-forgotten, recently rediscovered work of Fernande Decruck. He has initiated several critical editions published by Éditions Billaudot and has programmed numerous works by the composer in the United States and internationally.

In 2022, he recorded with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra the first album devoted to her orchestral works (Claves Records), offering orchestras renewed access to the rich and distinctive musical world of Fernande Decruck.

In 2025, Matthew Aubin releases a second album with Claves Records, marking a new milestone. This recording notably highlights the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, a highly expressive work that had long remained unpublished. This recording project further confirms his commitment to revealing to the public the breadth and richness of the composer’s orchestral language.
